Hollow Oak Land Trust is presenting a two-part Greenways & Sustainable Trails workshop in partnership with Moon Township.
This workshop is designed for people who work in parks, trails, and planning, and for anyone interested in learning about the vital role of sustainably-designed trails in the region. Participants in the workshop can expect to learn more about greenway planning, land-use advocacy, and resilient trail design. Examples will include greenway trail projects in the Pittsburgh Airport area and Avonworth communities. An overview will be provided of collaborative efforts among over 30+ organizations and agencies to identify greenspace corridors throughout Allegheny County. The Allegheny Green Web coalition is developing the conceptual plan for integrating open space plans and comprehensive plans into an evolving regional strategy for open space connections.
The field session will give attendees an in-depth understanding of how to design, build, and maintain natural surface trails. Specialized hand tools will be used to demonstrate how volunteers can build these trails in terrain too rugged for traditional machinery.
